Wednesday was a good day to be a camper at Seven Hills!
Since it was our last day with our First Time Brownies, they got to wear their pajamas to a breakfast of English muffins and fruit. Each program soon split off to make the most of their day, but not before helping clean up camp during kaper time. Gaga was a popular activity despite the heat. It’s a game a group can play by rolling a ball around at each other inside a hexagonal pen. If the ball touches you beneath the knee, you’re out!
Our ropes program (On Belay) conquered their second high ropes course–the islands–this morning. Each climber headed up a ladder to a pole and climbed up to reach two wires that held small benches of wood. Once up there, there are no hand holds, which makes the experience a bit nerve racking (if you weren’t nervous already)! Our ropes director Luna did a great job encouraging each camper to keep trying even though it was scary, and each accomplished something new.
Our environmental educator volunteer Feather helped a group of campers learn to build a lean-to in the woods, but not before introducing them to a local snake friend. Feather was kept busy exploring the out-of-commission parts of camp today with two back-to-back lost unit hikes.
Two groups had a cookout today over the campfire for lunch. The media director was quite pleased to find that there were delicacies such as fire-warmed breadsticks, pizza pie irons, chicken wing dip, and zoey cakes (a Seven Hills specialty of campfire-baked cake with melted mix-ins like chocolate and marshmallows) on the menu.
Over at Arts and Crafts, Oompa Loompas crafted their very own golden tickets out of construction paper and gold details. Given the heat of the day, groups such as our Counselors in Training were relieved to be given a bit of pool time. Our day was capped off by a themed meal–Crazy Hair Dinner!
