Words can’t describe what an incredible weekend it’s been here at Camp Seven Hills. 95 years and what a times it’s been. From old faces to new, everyone had a blast over the past few days and I hope you all get the chance to see the photos to truly see the joy everyone experienced.
To kick start our celebrations on Friday evening, we welcomed returning staff and campers at the parking lot for check in. Bags were unpacked, sleeping bags were rolled out and returning faces met up with old friends to reminisce about their time at camp. Once check-in was complete, it was time to begin our celebrations. From 8:00pm – 10:00pm, our guests had the opportunity to visit several program areas, which included; edible campfires in the dining hall, sing-a-long camp fire at our all camp fire circle and open sports (gaga, tennis, volleyball and soccer) over in the sports field. The excitement of being back at camp was definitely exhausting, as many faces headed to their units once the activities were finished ready for a fun-filled day tomorrow.
Rolling into Saturday morning, we were SO excited for our day to begin. Breakfast at the dining hall consisted of waffles, sausages, fruit, cereal and yoghurts with many heading up for seconds (myself included)! Once everyone’s stomachs were filled, the celebrations officially begun for the day! Our main locations for activities included; sports, arts and crafts, highland for the lost unit hike, nature and drama. From pony bead keychains, pinecone critters, awkward family photos, water games, parachute games, cardboard flower vases, s’mores/zoey cakes and karaoke, the day was filled with unique activities that some of us have never experienced at camp before. As this was all happening, we also had our popular locations open for the entire day. This included; swimming, ropes, archery, soccer (football!), an inflatable obstacle course, tie dye in Plainsman, basketball, tuck shop and a nature scavenger hunt!
For our 95th celebration ceremony after lunch outside of our dining hall, it was such a heart-warming experience to hear the impact that our camp has made on those who have just joined us for one session in the 95 years to those that have joined us since the 1930’s. In particular, we had one lady who first came to Camp Seven Hills in 1946 and sharing her story with us yesterday, was beautiful to hear the impact that camp has had on her life decades later. For someone who first came to camp in 2022, it was an opportunity I never thought I would get to experience being able to speak to someone who was at Seven Hills in the 1940’s!
From everyone here at Camp Seven Hills, we just wanted to say a huge thank you to not only those that visited us this past weekend, but for all those who have stepped foot here over the past 95 years. Camp is a place where anyone can be anyone and truly be themselves and it’s a place where many call home (even those who live across the pond)! Whether you joined us for one week across the decades or spent years working as a counsellor here, thank you. Camp wouldn’t be half of what it is today if it wasn’t for you. I think the most important part of all are the friendships made. Looking at everyone yesterday, you could feel past memories filling the air. If it wasn’t for Camp Seven Hills, some of us would never have met our best friends. Camp is a place for everyone and we hope to see you all again very soon!
Thank you again, From the 2025 staff here at Seven Hills
