Session 2 Monday

Everyone is getting to know Camp Seven Hills for our first full day! Some campers decided to wake up extra early (much, much earlier than the media director could take pictures of them…) to participate in our road runners (early exercise) and polar bear swim (early pool swim) programs. The rest of the campers and staff met up with them at 8 o’clock for our beginning of the day flag ceremony and breakfast. Right after breakfast each group of campers take about 30 minutes to split up the camp chores–kapers. This morning, for example, some of the brownies were responsible for sweeping the whole dining hall, while Camp of Champions campers helped clean out the pool bathroom.

Immediately after kapers, camp activities are in full swing! Since this week’s theme is Broadway week, it was only fitting that out NYC trip group spent some time in Arts & Crafts creating their own miniature sets. We saw a ton of creative scenes set up in cardboard boxes. Archery was also a popular activity today, with our sports director Catch teaching everyone the rules, safety procedures, and which way to hold a bow. Across camp, groups also took time to relax in the pool–playing mermaids and practicing dives.

While waiting for lunch, an impromptu dance party broke out in front of the dining hall. Everyone tried to keep up while our drama counselor Rocket led line dances. After lunch, Climbing Masters had their first taste of the ropes course. After playing some trust games and learning the correct way to spot a climber, they moved into the woods onto the low ropes course. Rumor is that things are getting a bit more intense tomorrow!

Lots of groups got to visit Mama Clover in the Tuck Shop today and have their first chance to grab some souvenirs. The lake (where Molly, the pink and purple whale lives) saw a ton of activity as well today, with brownies, CITs, and Campers vs. Counselors taking some time at boating. A few groups made it to sports to play gaga (a game where a kickball is swatted around and players try to avoid it hitting their leg below the knee), including both groups of brownies, who teamed up against the counselors. After a dinner of barbeque chicken, campers could split off from their units to choose one of three activities: reading and relaxing by the lake, a Broadway dance party, or a huge gaga game. Tomorrow will be another busy one as our NYC trip leaves early in the morning. See pictures here.
